Motivation is your Enemy

It exists. But it’s never there when you truly need it, is it?

It’s there the night before something important… it’s there in the lead up to it… but right at the time of the event, of performing, of making the important decision…

it’s gone. and reality + your brain’s coping mechanism takes over

you’ve hesitated. and it’s the killer of action and dreams. the brain goes into what we call “the spotlight effect”. you’re stuck, and the brain begins to think “something must be wrong. you’ve hesitated. you didn’t hesitate to choose breakfast this morning or to put your clothes on… this must be dangerous

And so it goes into that defensive mechanism, and you hesitate more. And all the while, you’re now telling yourself disempowering beliefs and bullshit stories about how it’ll never work… about how it’s dangerous and you’ll be ridiculed if you don’t pull it off

All of which are lies

Lies that can be destroyed with a simple concept of action. All brought about by a simple countdown of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… and then taking a small step of action

I can hear you thinking now… “please, that’s so simple, it surely mustn’t work“. But it does. As psychologically, it awakens the pre-frontal cortex and springs you into action

They utilise this technique in the armed services, and you’ll also see it used in schools to grab the attention of hundreds of noisy and disinterested kids… There is ultimate power behind it if you choose to use it

So the next time you find yourself in a situation where you freeze. A situation nerves and fear begin to sprout, and you want to tell yourself a bullshit story about how you could never do “that” – in your head countdown… 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 – and then move on something

Besides, the best struggle with all you do. They just don’t hesitate to take action on certain tasks

And look at what it’s done for them
